Mycelium Skin (MycelioTronics)

Fungal mycelium processed into thin, flexible sheets for use as fully biodegradable electronic substrate. Supports metal deposition (PVD) and laser patterning to create conductive traces with conductivity ~10⁴ S/cm. Withstands 2000+ bending cycles. Demonstrated in Bluetooth-enabled humidity/proximity sensor nodes with mycelium-based battery. 100% compostable after use. Pioneer work by Johannes Kepler University Linz team (2022).

Come si produce

Mycelium grown on agricultural waste (hemp, sawdust) 7-14 days → dried → compressed to 200-500 μm sheets → PVD metal deposition → CO₂ laser scribing for patterns
