Battery-free biodegradable skin patch for on-demand physiological monitoring via NFC energy harvesting. Developed by Design Friction Lab × Sensing Technologies Lab at Free University of Bozen-Bolzano. Fully printed electronics architecture on biodegradable carrier membrane with capacitive sensors and RFID communication. Activated by mobile phone gesture, transmits real-time data wirelessly. TRL 5 research prototype addressing e-waste and sustainability in wearable bioelectronics. Zero battery waste, complete biodegradability, low carbon manufacturing.

Come funziona

Biodegradable carrier membrane with fully printed electronics including conductive traces, interdigital capacitive sensors with functionalized polymer films, and miniature RFID chip with printed coil antenna. Activated by NFC tap from mobile phone, harvests wireless energy to power sensors and transmit physiological data to designated app. Compatible with spray deposition and 3D conformal printing for body-integrated designs.
